Overwhelmed with those pesky Snapchat notifications? In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to regain control your Snapchat notifications and get alerted of only the things that matter to you or turn them off altogether.

Snapchat is notorious for sending notifications, many of which are not related to direct messages or stories from friends you care about. From my experience, I can say that even if you do not use Snapchat actively, it may still send about a dozen alerts per day.
Thankfully, the Snapchat app gives you the option to fine-tune your notification experience and get alerted of just those things that matter to you. Alternatively, you can rely on your iPhone’s notification features to manage them or block all alerts to cut off the distractions entirely.
Customize Snapchat notifications inside the app
The first thing to reduce Snapchat notifications is to control it on the app level.
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile picture or Bitmoji from the top left.
- Tap the gear icon from the top right.
- Tap Notifications.
- You will see a long list of options. Go through them carefully and turn off alerts for things that are of little value to you. Snapchat provides a simple explanation for each toggle that further helps your decision-making process.
Turn off notifications for Snapchat stories
Snapchat lets you get notified when your close friends and subscriptions post a new story. So, if you had chosen to get alerted of new stories from a specific friend but changed your mind, you can turn that off.
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile picture or Bitmoji from the top left, followed by the gear icon.
- Tap Notifications.
- Scroll to the end of the screen and tap Manage Story Notifications.
- If you see a checkmark before a friend’s or subscription’s name, that means Snapchat sends you notifications when they publish a new story. These friends are also listed under the “Selected” heading. Simply tap their name to unselect them, and then tap Done. You will no longer get alerts when they post a new story on Snapchat.
Mute Snapchat alerts for an hour or the rest of the day
Swipe left on a Snapchat notification on the iPhone Lock Screen or Notification Center and tap Options > Mute for 1 Hour or Mute for Today. You can learn more about it here.
Set Snapchat notifications to deliver quietly
Like other apps, you can go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > Snapchat and set its alerts to deliver quietly. After this, when a new Snapchat notification comes in, your iPhone will not play the tone, vibrate, or wake up the screen. It will come in quietly and appear in the Notification Center.
Use Focus, Do Not Disturb, or Reduce Interruptions
iPhone has robust built-in ways to tackle app notifications, and one of the most loved features is Focus. You can create Focus profiles like Work, Reading, and so forth and add Snapchat to the excluded list. After doing this, when that Focus is active, Snapchat alerts won’t bother you.
Do Not Disturb is also a part of the Focus feature, and you can use it to mute Snapchat notifications when you are working on something important or just want some quiet time.
On a similar note, Reduce Interruptions is yet another Focus feature that’s available on iPhones with Apple Intelligence. Reduce Interruptions Focus will use its intelligence to determine what notifications are important and allow them to reach you while silencing all non-important notifications.
Stop your iPhone from announcing Snapchat notifications
If your iPhone reads out Snapchat messages or other notifications through the earphones, on-device speakers, or car’s speaker, go to iOS Settings > Notifications > Announce Notifications > Snapchat and turn off the Announce Notifications switch.
Stop getting Snapchat notifications on your Apple Watch
Most iPhone app notifications are mirrored on your Apple Watch when you’re wearing your watch and not using your phone. If you do not want to get Snapchat notifications on your Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap Notifications, and turn off the switch for Snapchat.
Note: You won’t see Snapchat in the Watch app’s Notification settings if you have already set Snapchat to deliver the alerts quietly on your iPhone (explained above) or turned it off (explained at the end of this tutorial).
Turn off Snapchat notifications on your computer
If you have set up iPhone Mirroring on your Mac, Snapchat and other notifications from your iPhone apps will show up on your Mac and stay in its Notification Center. To stop this, go to Mac’s System Settings > Notifications > Allow notifications from iPhone and turn off the switch for Snapchat.
You can also use Snapchat in a web browser on your Mac or Windows PC. If you do not want those alerts, learn how to manage your browser notifications to turn off Snapchat alerts on your computer.
Turn off all Snapchat notifications on your iPhone
Lastly, if you want zero alert from Snapchat, you can block all notifications at the system level. After this, you won’t get Snapchat notifications for direct messages, stories, or anything else.
To do this, go to iPhone Settings > Notifications and select Snapchat from the list of apps. Now, turn off the switch for Allow Notifications to block all alerts from Snapchat.
