Jailbreak news of the week: Communication jailbreak tweaks, Nugget Mobile, MikotoX, & more…

Jailbreaking iPhones and iPads runs deep in our culture here at iDownloadBlog, and for that reason, we dedicate much of our time and attention to this hobby for fellow users like us that want to get the most out of their handset without being under Apple’s thumb.

Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

With that in mind, we cover a lot of information here ranging from tutorials to reviews, and we know it can be challenging to keep up day in and day out. That’s why we make a weekly roundup post like this one, making it easy to catch up on the latest jailbreak-related news and information you need.

In this roundup piece, we’ll discuss everything we showed you in the past week, spanning Monday, September 16th through Sunday, September 22nd.

Important stuff from this week

Best Communication Jailbreak Tweaks

The best communication jailbreak tweaks for iOS 16.

The iDB team has hand-picked what we believe are some of the best jailbreak tweaks for enhancing the communication features on iPhones and iPads running iOS & iPadOS 15 and 16.

You can learn more about those jailbreak tweaks so that you can boost your handset’s user experience in our full roundup post.

No iOS 17 kernel exploit yet

Lars Fröder says there is no kernel exploit for iOS 17 yet, even as iOS 18 releases.

Lars Fröder, the lead developer behind the Dopamine jailbreak tool and the TrollStore perma-signing utility reminded the jailbreak community on Wednesday that there still isn’t a publicly-available kernel exploit for iOS & iPadOS 17, even as iOS & iPadOS 18 release to the general public.

This is a stark reminder of the state of jailbreaking in 2024, as more security researchers take advantage of Apple’s bug bounty program to cash in on the rewards rather than releasing their work for jailbreak developers to take advantage of. Apple’s scheme is certainly working to their advantage.

You can learn more about Fröder’s comments in our full news post.

Nugget Mobile

The Nugget SparseRestore-based system customization tool was a hit when it first released, and the introduction of a graphical user interface (GUI) instead of a command line interface (CLI) only made it more popular.

But soon, Nugget users will be able to take advantage of Nugget Mobile, an on-device system customization tool that doesn’t require the use of a computer.

You can learn more about the upcoming Nugget Mobile in our full news post.

MikotoX

MikotoX banner image.

MikotoX is a project that makes SparseRestore-based system customizations on iPhones and iPads without the use of a computer.

The project uses system backups to make jailbreak tweak-like changes to devices, but because it messes with MobileGestalt, there is a risk of boot looping that users should be prepared to deal with should anything go wrong.

You can learn more about MikotoX in our full review post.

LoopVideos

LoopVideos Screenshots.

A new feature in iOS & iPadOS 18 is that videos in the Photo Library will exhibit looped playback when the user looks at a particular video file in the Photos app.

This feature has been highly requested for some time, and now, jailbreakers can get the same functionality with the LoopVideos jailbreak tweak without upgrading to a newer firmware version.

You can learn all about LoopVideos in our full review post.

Remove Widget Background

The Remove Widget Background jailbreak tweak does exactly what the name says. It removes backgrounds from the widgets on your iPhone’s Home Screen.

While it doesn’t work with every single widget you may have, it does work with the vast majority. This allows you to see more of your wallpaper without compromising on the use of your Home Screen’s widgets.

You can learn more about Remove Widget Background in our full review post.

CameraModes

CameraModes is a new and free jailbreak tweak that lets iPhone and iPad owners add or remove photograph capturing or video recording modes from the Camera app’s native interface.

It’s particularly useful for those who want to simplify the Camera app’s user interface by removing items that they otherwise never use. This can make accessing more frequently-used items easier by removing unwanted clutter and bloat from the app.

You can learn more about CameraModes in our full review post.

Emodeji

The new Emodeji jailbreak tweak replaces the shooting mode names in the Camera app with relatable Emojis that accurately depict what each mode does.

Whether you’re recording video using the regular or a specialized mode, or you’re taking pictures using the regular or a specialized mode, there’s an Emoji for that.

You can learn more about Emodeji in our full review post.

RecordPause

RecordPause brings an iOS 18-style video recording pause button to the Camera app.

The RecordPause jailbreak tweak adds a pause button to the video recording interface in the Camera app on jailbroken devices that looks and feels just like the comparable button in iOS 18 devices.

This means you can pause and resume video recording while in the middle of your project without starting a new video recording file.

You can learn more about RecordPause and how it works in our full review post.

Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+)

Still Capture button in Camera app.

With the Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+) jailbreak tweak, you can enable the still capture button in the iPad’s Camera app whenever you’re recording video.

This allows you to capture a still frame in the middle of recording a video without an interruptions, resulting in a lone image file separate from your video file.

You can learn more about Still Capture Enabler (iPadOS 15+) in our full review post.

LeminLimez gets GitHub page back

LeminLimez GitHub page.

After a long battle with GitHub’s customer support, iOS developer LeminLimez finally has full control over their GitHub page again after it was banned when the Nugget release was mistakenly flagged as malicious content.

Now that the GitHub page has been reinstated, LeminLimez is free to upload material and share it with the community once more.

You can learn more about this in our full news post.
