If you utilize widgets on your Home Screen at all, then you probably value seeing information at a glance. But what if you also value seeing your wallpaper? Unfortunately, the size of iOS’ Home Screen widgets can sort of… get in the way.
For this reason, iOS developer 82flex has released a new jailbreak tweak called Remove Widget Background that makes the backgrounds of your Home Screen widgets seemingly disappear. This allows you to see more of your wallpaper.
Whether you’ve set a wonderful image as your iPhone’s wallpaper or you’re taking advantage of the Colorful Wallpaper X jailbreak tweak, you can use the Remove Widget Background jailbreak tweak to see more of those wallpapers without having to remove your Home Screen widgets.
According to the developer, it isn’t easy to recognize and remove the background view of Home Screen widgets since they are based on SwiftUI, so they had to take a different approach that involved restricting the size of Drawing Commands.
The developer also warns that not all app widgets are supported. This rule of thumb applies on an app-by-app basis, so be sure to note that some third-party apps may draw their widgets differently and as such, affect compatibility.
Once installed, Remove Widget Background adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Things you can do here include:
- Toggling Remove Widget Background on or off on demand
- Enabling Remove Widget Background with Material View
- Enabling Remove Widget Background with System Widgets
- Choosing which applications Remove Widget Background will apply to
- Force Dark Mode support on iOS 16
- Adjust the maximum element width via a slider
- Adjust the maximum element height via a slider
- Respring to save your changes
If you’re interested in giving the Remove Widget Background tweak a try, then you can download it for free from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.
If you’re not one to compromise and you want both beautiful wallpapers that you can actually see and useful widgets that provide you with helpful information, then the Remove Widget Background jailbreak tweak is likely to benefit you.
