How to install and use TrollStore Lite on jailbroken devices

Many jailbreakers and non-jailbreakers alike are familiar with the TrollStore perma-signing utility, which utilizes a CoreTrust exploit in iOS & iPadOS 14.0-16.6.1 and 17.0 to permanently install .ipa files as System apps with elevated permissions.

But recently, TrollStore developer Lars Fröder (@opa334dev) released a new app called TrollStore Lite that works specifically on jailbroken devices. It’s a tool that can be used on firmware where no CoreTrust bug exists, and works as a front-end for installing .ipa and .tipa files.

In today’s tutorial, we’ll not only show you how to install TrollStore Lite on a jailbroken device, but we’ll show you how to transfer all existing TrollStore apps to TrollStore Lite.

What you need to know about TrollStore Lite

TrollStore Lite differs from TrollStore in that it doesn’t make use of a CoreTrust bug to install apps. In fact, it seems to be specifically useful for installing .ipa files on jailbroken devices that don’t have access to the CoreTrust exploit that TrollStore uses, such as on those jailbroken via palera1n on iPadOS 17.0.1 and later, as an example.

TrollStore Lite requires a jailbroken device first and foremost. If you’re using it in conjunction with AppSync, then you can install and register apps as User instead of System as the regular TrollStore does. If you’re not using AppSync, then TrollStore Lite will install and register apps as System but it will do so ad-hoc instead of utilizing the CoreTrust bug to do it.

If you have a device that supports TrollStore and the CoreTrust bug, such as iOS & iPadOS 14.0-16.6.1 and 17.0, then you can still use TrollStore Lite, but the benefits are a little less pronounced. You should keep TrollStore on your device while using TrollStore Lite and you will have the option of transferring installed apps to TrollStore Lite to take advantage of the ad-hoc app installation and registration (a purportedly cleaner method).

Since TrollStore Lite requires a jailbreak, this means whatever you’ve installed with it will only work while you’re in a jailbroken state. Whether you have a perma-signed jailbreak with TrollStore, or you use palera1n, both make it easy to get re-jailbroken and access the apps you’ve installed and registered with TrollStore Lite. So be sure to keep TrollStore installed if you have it.

It’s easy to install TrollStore Lite and transfer your current perma-signed apps from TrollStore to TrollStore Lite. You will need TrollStore v2.1 or later in order to do this, and in today’s piece, we’ll show you how to do it in the simplest way possible.
