The Lock Screen is home to the passcode entry interface, which you as the iPhone or iPad user will generally only ever see when your Face ID/Touch ID authentication fails, or when you fully reboot your device. While there are other instances when the passcode entry interface may appear, they’re a lot less frequent than the aforementioned.
Those looking to further customize the Lock Screen’s passcode entry interface may find enjoyment in the newly released PassText jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Hitori, as it lets you replace the numbers on the passcode entry interface’s keypad with words or Emojis of your choosing, as shown in the screenshot example depicted above.
Once installed, PassText adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak to their liking:
Among the things you can do here are:
Enable or disable the tweak on demand
- Enter custom text for key #1
- Enter custom text for key #2
- Enter custom text for key #3
- Enter custom text for key #4
- Enter custom text for key #5
- Enter custom text for key #6
- Enter custom text for key #7
- Enter custom text for key #8
- Enter custom text for key #9
- Enter custom text for key #0
- Respring your device to save any changes you’ve made
Since PassText only replaces the text string contents of each passcode key button, it doesn’t functionally change the way your Lock Screen’s passcode entry interface works. Instead, it merely changes how it looks. The locations of the passcode keys you use to enter your passcode remain the same, even if you can’t tell which numbers you’re tapping on anymore.
From a security standpoint, this may actually stand to bewilder anyone who tries to enter your passcode and obtain unauthorized access to your handset. So there’s an argument for enhanced security to be made here as well.
Those interested in giving the new PassText jailbreak tweak a try can download it for free from the Havoc repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 14, 15, 16, and 17 devices.
