On notched iPhones, such as the iPhone X and newer, holding down on the sleep/wake button invokes the Siri voice assistant. Consequently, users of these devices need to perform button trickery (volume up, volume down, then press and hold sleep/wake) to summon the power menu.
If you’re used to Home Button-equipped handsets, then this can be both a learning curve and an annoyance. That’s why iOS developer NightwindDev created a free jailbreak tweak called LockButtonX.
LockButtonX remaps the sleep/wake button on the iPhone X and newer so that it invokes the power menu instead of the Siri voice assistant. This brings these newer handsets’ functionality more inline with that of older devices that already did this previously.
LockButtonX has is made entirely from Apple’s Swift programming language and it is available from the developer’s GitHub page for anyone looking to give it a try at no cost whatsoever.
Consequently, LockButtonX not available from your typical jailbreak repository in your package manger app; instead, you’ll need to download the .deb file and install it manually with your package manager or file manager app.
If you’re feeling nostalgic over the older function of the sleep/wake button prior to the release of the iPhone X, then we think this is just the tweak for you. But if you’ve grown to love the newer gesture mapping to Siri, then perhaps you should steer clear.
