Because hacking and jailbreaking iPhones and iPads is a major part of what we cover here at iDB, the news pipeline moves fast day by day, and it can be easy to miss something important if you’re interested in this space.
Fortunately, iDB provides its readers with a comprehensive weekly roundup, just like this one, ensuring that all related posts are outlined with the most recent news from the past week.
In this piece, we’ll discuss the latest jailbreak-related news and and jailbreak tweak releases spanning the week of Monday, August 19th through August 25th.
Important stuff from this week
Best accessibility jailbreak tweaks
There are lots of jailbreak tweaks that can improve the accessibility of certain features on iOS 16 that we want you to know about.
You can learn about all the best accessibility-enhancing jailbreak tweaks for iOS 15 & 16 devices in our full roundup post.
RootHide bootstrap updates
The RootHide Procursus-based bootstrap for TrollStore received some important beta updates this past week that will soon roll out to all users.
With it, users can inject jailbreak tweaks into their apps using only TrollStore on iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.6.1 and 17.0 without a jailbreak.
You can learn more about the latest updates below:
TrollStore Lite teased
TrollStore is known as a perma-signing app utility that makes use of a CoreTrust bug, but developer Lars Fröder wanted to make an AppSync-based version for jailbroken devices called TrollStore Lite, and development appears to be underway.
The benefits of an AppSync-based TrollStore Lite appear rooted in the fact that there are issues with giving several apps system registration when user registration would work just fine. TrollStore Lite would be for jailbroken devices only.

Feather
Feather is a new sideloading app for iPhones and iPads that lets those enrolled in the $98.99/year Apple Developer Program sign their apps on-device with a developer certificate for 365 days/1 year.
The app is intended to be an open-source alternative to ESign that doesn’t send analytics to sketchy servers and locations that end users wouldn’t want their data going to.
You can learn more about Feather in our full review post.
Shijima
Shijima is a new jailbreak tweak that unlocks the ability to use Shimeji desktop pets on jailbroken iPhones and iPads.
These fully-interactive pets respond to your touches and randomly multiply. You can download as many pet templates as you want from the Internet.
You can learn all about Shijima in our full review post.
CarCast
CarCast is an upcoming app for TrollStore that will allow users to cast most forms of DRM-free, web-based video content to their vehicle’s CarPlay receiver.
Since many of us can relate to the boredom that comes from sitting in a parking lot waiting for things, this add-on promises big-screen entertainment while sitting in the car and not physically driving.
You can learn more about CarCast in our full review post.
New character bug crashing iPhones
There’s a new character bug that appears to be wreaking havoc on iPhones and iPads, and it specifically involves typing a certain string of characters into the search bars found throughout iOS and iPadOS.
As it appears, typing “”:: in the App Library search bar crashes SpringBoard and entering the same characters into the Settings app search bar crashes the Settings app. Apple is expected to fix this in a future software update.
You can learn more about the latest character bug in our full news post.
Aemulo moves to Havoc
Aemulo, the popular iPhone NFC tag emulation jailbreak tweak, moved from the Chariz repository to the Havoc repository over the weekend in a move that the developer says is primarily motivated by the need for more payment processing options.
According to the developer, existing owners of the tweak should receive a promo code for redeeming the tweak via the Havoc repository, and Aemulo 2 will be a free upgrade to existing users when it’s complete.
You can learn more about this in our full news post.
NathanLR goes partially open source
The NathanLR fork of the Serotonin semi-jailbreak was made partially open-source this week.
NathanLR supports rootless jailbreak tweaks, uses a more reliable exploit than Serotonin, and supports iOS & iPadOS 16.5.1-16.6.1.
You can learn more about the project and it becoming partially open source in our full news post.
CamElapsed+
The CamElapsed+ jailbreak tweak adds sub-seconds to the Camera app’s video recording timer.
With this capability, you have a more precise time readout of your video recording.
