The romance between AltStore PAL and Epic Games only continues to deepen this week following Epic Games’ MegaGrant to the AltStore team ahead of the company’s plans to host its popular Fortnite mobile game on the platform.
Fortunately for Fortnite mobile fans, things are moving quickly. In an announcement shared Friday morning by the AltStore team via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Fortnite mobile is finally available via AltStore PAL starting today.
AltStore PAL became a free service for everyone in the European Union just this week following the issuance of the MegaGrant. The service used to be behind a subscription-based paywall, but the latest change makes the platform accessible to more people.
As noted in the AltStore team’s post, Epic Games’ Fortnite mobile game is being hosted via a Recommended Source, along with other popular games such as Rocket League Sideswipe and a new mobile version of Fall Guys.
AltStore PAL is an alternative to the App Store from which iPhone and iPad users can acquire apps. The platform came to fruition shortly after the EU passed new regulations in the Digital Markets Act (DMA) that affected Apple’s App Store policies. Because of this, AltStore PAL isn’t available in the United States or anywhere other than the EU.
Epic Games and Apple have a long legal history over many of the App Store’s policies, so it’s unsurprising to see the game maker hosting Fortnite mobile in AltStore PAL rather than the App Store given the message this sends Apple.
AltStore PAL is so much more than just a place where you can install Fortnite — it’s an alternative app marketplace where almost any reputable developer can host their apps. Recommended Sources pop up in the app for users to discover, opening a whole new world of apps to the end user.
You can learn more about AltStore PAL via the AltStore official website.
