iOS 18 beta 6 links app icon tints to your Home Screen wallpapers

The sixth beta of iOS 18 changed the app’s icon tinting so that the chosen icon tint is now linked on a per-wallpaper basis.

iOS 18 brings new customization options for the Home Screen, including applying a custom tint to the Home Screen app icons to create a distinct look like no other, but there were problems with that.

Earlier betas applied the icon tint systemwide without tying it to the selected wallpaper. Apple has fixed that as iOS 18 beta 6 now links icon tints on a per-wallpaper basis. So now it’s even easier to customize different Home and Lock Screen to your liking with specific icon tints.

iOS 18 beta 6 links the app color tints to the wallpaper

To customize the app icon color on your iPhone, hold down any icon on the Home Screen and choose Edit Home Screen, then hit Edit in the top-left corner, choose Customize from the menu and select the Tint option.

Any changes made here to the icon tint will be linked to the current Lock and Home Screen wallpaper. Now go to Settings > Wallpaper and swipe to select another wallpaper, then edit the Home Screen to apply a different icon tint. Switching between these two wallpapers will automatically apply the corresponding icon tint! A video on Reddit showcases the feature in action.

iOS 18 beta 6 also tweaks other features related to Home Screen customization. One of the new features in iOS 18 is Dark Mode icons, but prior betas would mistakenly show Dark Mode icons when Light Mode was turned on. Beta 6 has fixed that, so app icons in notifications match your systemwide Dark Mode settings.
