Delta emulator app for iPhone & iPad updated to v1.6.2 to fix skin issues and various app crashes

Delta, perhaps the most well-known and easily recognized retro console emulator app for the iOS & iPadOS platforms that first made its debut into the App Store back in April following an App Store policy change, has received another update on Wednesday, this time bringing the app up to version 1.6.2.

Delta Emulator v1.6.2 released.

The AltStore team announced the latest version of Delta via their X (formerly Twitter) social media account, noting that it provides fixes for issues with controller skins that were introduced in the most recent update, especially when attempting to use iPhone skins on the much larger screened iPad.

The full suite of changes, as noted in the Delta v1.6.2 change log, are as follows:

– Changed Caroline Moore’s credit to “Creative Director”
– Fixed occasionally dropping DS touch screen inputs
– Fixed crash when loading certain skins with fallback traits
– Fixed crash when loading certain iPhone skins on iPad
– Fixed app freezing when AirPlaying on non-DS systems
– Fixed app freezing when rotating device with certain skins

Whether you were using Delta via AltStore PAL or via the App Store, today’s update is officially available on both platforms.

Some of Delta’s most recent updates have incorporated full-fledged iPad support, as well as the ability to run Nintendo DS games without having to use the BIOS files that typically needed to be obtained using questionable methods found on the internet. That said, it’s unsurprising to see some Nintendo DS-related fixes in the most recent update as well.

With Delta, users can play games from the following Nintendo-based systems:

  • Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Nintendo 64
  • Game Boy (Color)
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo DS

It’s also worth noting that Delta supports Bluetooth controllers, including the following:

  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
  • Nintendo Switch Joy-Con
  • Nintendo Switch Online controllers (NES, SNES, N64)
  • PlayStation 4 controller
  • PlayStation 5 controller
  • Xbox One S controller
  • Xbox Series X controller
  • MFi game controllers
  • Bluetooth & wired keyboards

Support for more game consoles is reportedly in the works, however we have no idea what consoles are in the pipeline or when we can expect them. It’s worth noting that Apple’s App Store guidelines prevent emulation of anything besides “classic” game consoles, so the developers’ options are limited.

Delta is available as a free download from the App Store. If you aren’t sure how to load a game ROM into the Delta emulator app, then you can follow the steps outlined in our step-by-step tutorial.
