It was only yesterday that we reported about the palera1n team’s latest update to the checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak tool for up to A11 devices, which officially added support for iPadOS 18 for the first time.

While the only device that can actually be jailbroken with palera1n on iPadOS 18 is the iPad (7th generation), it’s worth noting that the palera1n team identified at least one issue where the Settings app had been re-written in Apple’s Swift programming language, therefore breaking preferenceloader — the package that loads options to configure for jailbreak tweaks in the Settings app.
While there was a temporary workaround at the time, it now seems that respected iOS developer @dhinakg put in effort to update preferenceloader with support for the rewritten Settings app for iPadOS 18 devices jailbroken via palera1n. The finding was first pointed out by jailbreak commentator @mastermike88 in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Those looking to test the latest build of preferenceloader on iPadOS 18 jailbroken by way of palera1n can get the latest preferenceloader build from @dhinakg’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. That repository, for those not already using it, is as follows:
https://dhinakg.github.io/repo/
Please note that if you’re already jailbroken on iOS or iPadOS 17 or earlier, then there is no reason to seek out this new build, as preferenceloader wasn’t broken on jailbroken devices pre-iPadOS 18.
With the latest build of preferenceloader installed, jailbroken iPadOS 18 users should be able to load jailbreak tweak preference panes. On the other hand, as this remains experimental at this time, bugs that could affect the user experience may exist.
Should a jailbreak become available for newer iOS & iPadOS 18 devices, the same preferenceloader update will be required since the Settings app’s Swift-based re-write basically affects everyone running the latest firmware, which is still in beta at the time of this writing.
Are you planning to try the new preferenceloader build, or are you not jailbreaking iPadOS 18 due to not having an iPad (7th generation)? Let us know in the comments section down below.
