One thing that always stood out to me as popular in the early days of jailbreaking was being able to record your taps on your screen as you recorded your display. I can recall this being stock functionality in a certain screen recording application by former jailbreak tweak developer Ryan Petrich, and when Apple finally brought screen recording to the native experience, they never thought to add such a feature out of the box.
Fortunately, iOS developer dayanch96 had the foresight to release a new and free jailbreak tweak called ShowMyTouches that, much as the name implies, displays every touch you make on your screen with round, animated circles, much like what I remember from Ryan Petrich’s screen recording jailbreak tweak that I always used so often back in the day.
As you can see in the screenshot example above, ShowMyTouches is intended to be a simple tweak that merely displays where and when you touch your screen. The taps manifest themselves as white circles with borders, and when they begin disappearing, they have a unique fade away animation.
Another thing you’ll notice is that the screenshot is of the tweak’s actual preference pane that you will find in the Settings app post-installation, and here, you can configure the tweak to your liking with the following options:
- Enabling or disabling ShowMyTouches on demand
- Choosing whether ShowMyTouches only works while recording your screen, or all the time
- Colorizing the touch color
- Colorizing the touch border color
- Adjusting the animation duration
- Adjusting the touch size
- Adjusting the corner radius
- Adjusting the border width
- Resetting options to their defaults
- And more…
For your viewing pleasure, here is an animated GIF that shows you what the effect looks like:
If you’re interested in adding touch indicators to your iPhone’s screen, then you can acquire ShowMyTouches for free from the Havoc repository. Please note that the tweak works with not only rootless and rootful jailbroken devices, but also with bootstrapped RootHide devices as well.
