Just over five years ago, we showed you a jailbreak tweak called JumpSkip by iOS developer Karimo229 that allowed jailbreakers to skip between music tracks using only their volume buttons instead of using touch-based controls.
Specifically, JumpSkip would train your device to recognize two different gesture styles, including: pressing volume down and then volume up to move to the next track in a playlist, or pressing volume up and then volume down to move back to the previous track in a playlist.
This was a popular jailbreak tweak at the time, but it was never updated to take advantage of the rootless jailbreaks we have today and it makes use of private APIs in the iOS & iPadOS operating systems that haven’t been present since the 13.0 era. That said, iOS developer MrMcGamer figured it was about time for a remake.
Enter JumpSkipReborn, a re-write of the popular JumpSkip jailbreak tweak, but with support for the latest rootless jailbreaks and in incorporation of more gestures. JumpSkipReborn allows users to do the following things:
- Press volume up and volume down buttons at the same time to play or pause a track
- Press volume down, then volume up buttons to move to the next track
- Press volume up, then volume down buttons to move to the previous track
- Press volume down, then hold the volume up button down to fast-forward your track
- Press volume up, then hold the volume down button down to rewind your track
As you can see, the JumpSkipReborn jailbreak tweak isn’t merely a carbon copy of the original, but it actually improves on it by adding more gestures and features.
With no options to configure, JumpSkipReborn merely requires that you install the tweak and then make use of the five aforementioned gestures to control your media playback. That’s as simple as it gets.
Those interested in giving JumpSkipReborn a try can download it for free from the project’s GitHub page. It can then be installed on a jailbroken device by way of a package manager app such as Sileo or Zebra.
The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices, including rootless jailbreaks like Dopamine and palera1n. It remains to be seen if the tweak will make it to a repository where users can download it directly from Sileo or Zebra, but we certainly hope that will be the case at some point.
Are you planning to give JumpSkipReborn a try, or are you happy just using the stock media controls instead of memorizing hardware button gestures? Let us know in the comments section down below.
