One of the most annoying things that I put up with on a regular basis in terms of dismissing iMessage or Gmail notification banners from my Lock Screen or Notification Center is that the app icon badge pertaining to that notification doesn’t actually go away. In essence, launching the app to make the badge go away makes me feel like I’m investing twice the effort to dismiss that notification in its entirety.
As it turns out, this is a common frustration among iPhone and iPad users, and iOS developer newwares123 is out this weekend with a new jailbreak tweak called BadgeSync that attempts to fix the problem by syncing app icon badges values with your efforts to dismiss notification banners from the Lock Screen or from Notification Center.
The way the tweak works, according to the project’s GitHub page, is that it decreases an app’s notification badge value by the number of notifications you dismiss from the Lock Screen or from Notification Center. That said, if you dismiss only one banner, then the badge value reduces by one; but if you dismiss all notification banners for that app, then the badge disappears completely.
The obvious benefit to this tweak is that you no longer need to launch the app in question to remove the notification badge after you’ve already dismissed its banner notification from the Lock Screen or from Notification Center. It then reduces the amount of effort you put into this process, making you a happier iPhone or iPad user.
In the video demonstration above, you can see how this works. It’s actually an ingenious idea, and I’m surprised it took until now for this longstanding annoyance to finally be addressed.
It’s worth noting that this problem doesn’t affect every app, but it’s especially prevalent in iMessage and in Gmail. The developer says that there are no options you need to configure, and that it ‘just works’ once installed, which is a huge help to anyone who just wants to fix this problem once and for all without any complicated settings.
Those interested in giving BadgeSync a try can currently download it for free from the Havoc repository via their favorite package manager app, and all jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 16 devices are supported. Those wanting to learn more about how the tweak works should visit the project’s GitHub page.
Are you going to be taking advantage of BadgeSync, or has this never really been an annoyance to you? I’m excited to read your thoughts in the comments section down below.
