Verxina upgrades the iPhone’s Home Screen Dock with more features

The Home Screen’s Dock ordinarily presents itself as a part of the Home Screen that always shows four user-selected apps. But how wonderful would it be if this ever-present interface did more than just offer a way to launch your favorite apps?

Verxina controls.

That’s the idea behind a newly released jailbreak tweak called Verxina by iOS developer uz.ra, which transforms the Home Screen’s Dock into a full-featured command center.

Citing a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the developer, Verxina works by permitting the user to swipe up on the Home Screen’s Dock to reveal the extended control panel. The control panel include the following features:

  • App shortcut panel where users can add up to four additional app shortcuts that are different from the Dock’s usual four icons
  • Media controller for playing/pausing media, swipe left to skip to next track, swipe right to move back to previous track, tap and hold to open the media app
  • A shortcut to the App Library
  • A URL shortcut area where you can incorporate various URL schemes
  • A respring button

The Dock is a fantastic place to put these types of controls because it’s something that remains on our Home Screen in an ever-present manner and that doesn’t take a lot of digging to reach.

Verxina annotated.

Perhaps best of all, when you’re done using Verxina, you can close it and your Dock goes back to looking like a traditional Dock. This means it keeps a low profile despite being incredibly useful.

Once installed, Verxina does add a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a few different options. Those include:

  • Toggling Verxina on or off on demand
  • Choosing with pinned apps to have in Verxina
  • Setting a URL scheme-based shortcut
  • Resetting all options to their defaults

The developer says that there are plans to add a lot more settings in the future, however we’ll have to wait to see what those will be.

If you’re interested in giving Verxina a try, then you can purchase it for $3.99 from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14, 15, and 16 devices.
