Jailbreakers who opened their package manager app on Tuesday may have noticed that there were a lot of updates to dependency packages from the Procursus repository.
From time to time, the Procursus Team drops updates to these packages to benefit the community. These packages are generally considered safe to download and use, so most of the jailbreak community should feel confident when installing these kinds of updates.
Interestingly enough, however, a small subset of users reported some strange issues after installing all these updates, and according to posts by Dopamine jailbreak lead developer Lars Fröder (@opa334dev) on X (formerly Twitter), the problem primarily affects users of Dopamine v1.x (anything pre-2.0).
In the posts, Fröder says that the updates are perfectly fine, however those experiencing issues are having these issues because a problem in Dopamine that had went unnoticed until today. Specifically, some older arm64 iOS 15.x jailbreak installs exhibit the following issues:
- Created .installed_dopamine
- Created no other .installed files
- Installed an iOS 16 bootstrap on iOS 15
Fröder noted that the installation of an iOS 16 bootstrap on iOS 15 was a big mistake, and that the updates pushed by the Procursus Team today won’t work correctly if users have a jailbroken iOS 15 device that is running an iOS 16 bootstrap.
To fix any issues that occur from these circumstances, Fröder recommends using the “Remove Jailbreak” option in the Dopamine jailbreak app’s settings and re-jailbreaking again afterward. This will obviously reset your jailbreak environment, but the benefit is that it will install the correct bootstrap on the affected device, allowing you to use it normally thereafter.
Anyone who is jailbroken iOS 16 shouldn’t have any issues installing these Procursus updates whatsoever. Just be aware that, depending on the iOS 15 device that you’ve jailbroken, you may want to pay close attention to your device behavior and be prepared to take the steps outlined above by Fröder.
