One thing that jailbreakers seem to go nuts over are redesigned App Switcher concepts for the iPhone. While these types of jailbreak tweaks were once commonplace, they aren’t as frequently made for current jailbreaks.
But at least one iOS developer by the name of MatoiDev is attempting to make a modern App Switcher replacement for current jailbreaks, and they’re calling the project Witcher.
Witcher strives to be a replacement for the stock App Switcher user interface on jailbroken iPhones. When summoned, it provides a unique carousel-like interface at the bottom of the display that lets the user move between recently used applications.
As users pan through the app icons in the carousel with their finger, a live preview of those apps is shown in the top half of the display in real time. Upon landing on the app that you want to use, you can lift your finger to launch it.
Witcher supports both notched and Home Button-equipped devices and is comprised of a preference pane and a working user interface, but it still needs a lot of polishing before it’s ready for the masses. For example, the developer plans to add options to the preference pane and add support for more firmware, among other things.
Witcher is currently in its alpha testing stages, which means that it isn’t yet complete, and users can expect to find bugs. The developer appreciates bug reports that describe not only what the issue is, but also what device and firmware combination you were experiencing it on.
Those interested in learning more about Witcher can head over to the project’s GitHub page where the alpha build is available as a free download for testing purposes. Users will also find instructions for contacting the developer about bugs and improvement suggestions.
We should note that Witcher currently only supports jailbroken iOS 15 devices, but support for iOS 16 is planned in the future.
