Kernel vulnerability PoC for iOS 17.4.1 and older

A security researcher said that they plain to publish a write-up denoting a proof-of-concept for a kernel vulnerability impacting iOS & iPadOS 17.4.1 and older very soon.

The announcement came shortly after Apple released iOS & iPadOS 17.5 with a slew of security patches, and it could mean great things for iPhone hacking in the future.

Update: In a follow-up post, the same security researcher made good on their promise to share a PoC. But it may not result in a jailbreak, or even a viable kernel exploit at all.

Update 2: Apple reportedly told the security researcher that the kernel vulnerability is non-exploitable and that they will not pay the full bug bounty for it.

iOS & iPadOS 17.5 released

Apple on Monday released iOS & iPadOS 17.5, a major software update with a substantial number of security patches.

Obviously, those hoping to jailbreak any time in the future should stay far away from this update, especially given the news about the potential PoC mentioned above.

Untethered jailbreak for iOS 9.2-9.3.4 teased

Jailbreak developer @dora2ios has teased an untethered jailbreak on iOS 9.2-9.3.4.

While it’s only for older arm64 devices, the achievement of an untethered jailbreak is no small feat. There is no ETA at this time.

Moxy Theme

Moxy Theme is a beautiful theme package for jailbronen and non-jailbroken devices that features well over 1,550 icons and incorporates icons for the Settings app and unique wallpapers.

The developers express their interest in making the theme support at least 3,000 icons, so they take requests from users.

TrollRecorder JB v1.8.6-145 released: Play recording warning can now be played by pressing the pause or resume button on the floating panel, customize the rectangular region that helps you position the hover-ball on the screen, determine which edges of the screen the hover-ball can be attached to, add warning dialogs to enable WeChat call assistant, increase timeout intervals in some scenarios, fix issue that prevents iOS 15 and iPhone 12 users from touching the hover-ball, fix issue that prevents call direction detection for WeChat calls, fix issue that causes the allow automatic recording toggles for FaceTime and Phone calls to not work properly, when URL scheme enabled is toggled off, open Safari to download the updated .tipa package ($6.99 via Havoc repository — review post)
