Talented jailbreak developer @dora2ios, known for their work on projects such as the Kok3shi9 jailbreak for iOS 9.3.x devices, the meowbrek2 semi-untether for the palera1n jailbreak, and for tinkering with the kernel file descriptor (KFD) exploit to make iOS 16-based jailbreaks for arm64 devices, appears to be working on something new that might be of interest for anyone using legacy iOS 9 firmware.
In a post shared to (formerly Twitter) not too long ago, @dora2ios said that, with the help of @imnotclarity and @staturnzdev, they had successfully achieved an untethered jailbreak that supports arm64 devices running iOS 9.2-9.3.4.
The post on X included a demonstration video of what appeared to be an iPhone 5s running iOS 9.3.1, and from what we can gather, it utilizes the jsc untether by @staturnzdev and kexploit/pwnkc by both @imnotclarity and @dora2ios.
If you were interested in viewing that video, we’ve embedded it for your viewing pleasure below:
It’s not surprising to see that @dora2ios has managed this, as they appear to be very good at what they do. In fact, their talents were noticed by the palera1n team, which just last year added @dora2ios to the team to help further the tool’s development.
While there probably aren’t a lot of people still using iOS 9, let alone older devices that run it, the furtherance of iPhone hacks by way of jailbreak untethers is no small feat. After all, we haven’t seen a true full-production untethered jailbreak for a very long time.
If you do happen to have a supported device, it’s worth noting that @dora2ios hasn’t released the tool yet and isn’t providing any ETAs for when it will be released. That said, those interested in using it should follow @dora2ios on X for updates.
Are you happy to see that developers are still furthering development on even legacy device and firmware combinations even though iOS & iPadOS 18 are right around the corner? Let us know in the comments section down below.
