Depending on how long you’ve been jailbreaking for, you might recall what was once a popular jailbreak tweak called ShortLook. This OLED-friendly notification system kept most of your screen black, while displaying the content of your notification and who it was from as a prompt at the center of the screen.
Fast-forward to today, and iOS developer Janis has released a new jailbreak tweak called Glance that brings many of the same capabilities of ShortLook to modern jailbroken devices running iOS 15 and 16, regardless of whether those jailbreaks are rootful or rootless.
As shown above, Glance changes the way that notifications come across your screen. It’s especially useful on OLED display-equipped devices because of the black background, but it works just as well on older LCD display-equipped devices.
Some of the notable features of Glance include:
- Showing the app title and icon of the missed notification without waking the rest of the screen
- Optionally show the notification’s content
- Display the profile picture of the sender if the notification comes from a supported app
- Interrupt the animation at any time and wake your display by simply tapping anywhere
- Customize the animation duration
- Customize the text sizes
- Automatically lock and put your device to sleep after displaying a notification
- Prevent anything from showing if a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode is turned on
As we alluded to above, Glance can display profile pictures if the notification sender comes from a certain type of app. Users will need to install a plugin to take advantage of this functionality from the following repository:

At this time, there are plugins for the following apps:
One of the biggest perks I can see in day-to-day usage of the Glance jailbreak tweak is that you can see notifications from far away, which can be useful if your iPhone is sitting on a MagSafe charger and out of your hands.
This is especially the case for jailbroken devices that don’t yet support the StandBy mode feature. But even if it does, then this tweak lets you see notifications in portrait orientation, while StandBy mode only works in landscape orientation.
If you’re interested in giving Glance a try, then you can purchase it for $1.49 from the Chariz repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken devices running iOS & iPadOS 15, 16, and 17.
