Apple ID could soon be called “Apple Account”

Christian Zibreg ∙ February 29, 2024

Apple is reportedly planning to rebrand its Apple ID services as “Apple Account,” with a possible announcement following sometime later this year.

MacRumors says the rebrand from ‌Apple ID‌ to Apple Account should occur later in 2024, likely coinciding with the release of iOS 18 and macOS 15 in the fall.

The publication doesn’t mention whether Apple will make a formal announcement. If it does, the upcoming WWDC24 in June could be the right place to share the news.

Apple ID could soon be called Apple Account

Marko Zivkovic, MacRumors:

System applications will receive modifications to reflect the change, as will Apple’s website—assuming the company chooses to implement the new branding.

And:

Although instances of the term “Apple Account” can be found on Apple’s website, and as part of larger phrases such as “Apple Account Balance,” our sources have said that Apple intends to replace existing mentions of “‌Apple ID‌” with “Apple Account” as a means of rebranding the feature.

I don’t think many people using Apple’s products will even notice this change.

What is Apple ID?

More than just an identity service across the Apple ecosystem, Apple ID is your master account required to use iMessage, iCloud, App Store and other Apple services with a single user name and password. Apple ID is also required to make purchases across Apple’s stores, including apps, music, movies and more.

Apple ID supports two-factor authentication and secure passkey login as additional layers of security.

You can update personal information stored in your Apple ID, such as your name and profile picture, as well as adjust account security, view your signed-in devices and more through the official Apple ID website at appleid.apple.com.
