Follow up banner in the Mail app on iPhone

After sending an email and not receiving a reply for some time, the Mail app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac will display a Follow Up banner at the top of the sent message, reminding you to follow up.

If you don’t want this option to appear in the Mail app, you can easily turn it off.

Note that this feature is specific to the device and not your email account. So, you’ll have to follow these steps separately on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to the end and tap Apps.
  3. Select Mail from the list of apps.
  4. Turn off the switch for Follow Up Suggestions.

Going forward, the Apple Mail app won’t nudge you to send a follow-up email. You can check this by going to the Sent section inside the Mail app and opening an email. There will be no Follow Up pill-shaped button there.

Mac

  1. Open the Mail app and press the Command + Comma (,) keys together. You can also click the word Mail from the top menu bar and pick Settings or Preferences.
  2. Make sure you’re in the General tab.
  3. Uncheck the box for Follow Up Suggestions or Enable message follow up suggestions.

After this, Mac’s Mail app will not remind you about messages that haven’t received responses.

If at some point you find that you miss Follow Ups, repeat the above steps to reactivate the feature.
