Learn how to stop notifications from the built-in Mindfulness app on Apple Watch to cut down on the number of wrist alerts.
What’s mindfulness?
The Mindfulness app helps you focus, calm your mind, and perform breathing exercises. You’ll see three options when you open the Mindfulness app:
- Log State of Mind: Choose this option to keep track of how you are feeling at the moment or how you’ve felt overall today.
- Breathe: Beautiful animations and haptic feedback tell you when to inhale and exhale while measuring your heartbeat.
- Reflect: This section motivates you to focus your attention on thoughts like ‘Think about a challenge you’re facing and how it will help you grow.‘ ‘Find something close to you. Notice the little details,‘ and similar.
Your Apple Watch sends you notifications to remind you to practice mindfulness twice daily, at the start of your day and before nap time. You can also choose the Add Reminder option to schedule these reminders however you want, like the 1pm lunch break at the office when you have some spare time to use the app.
It reads, ‘Taking time for mindfulness can help you through your day. Open Mindfulness.’ All in all, it’s a nice feature that only requires a few minutes of your time. But if you find the notification annoying or useless, here’s how to turn it off.
Stop Mindfulness notifications on Apple Watch
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap Mindfulness from the My Watch section.
- Turn off switches for Start of Day and End of Day under the Mindfulness Reminders section.
- If you’ve created a custom notification schedule, tap it and hit Remove Reminder.
- Turn off the Weekly Summary option.
To turn off mindfulness reminders on the watch itself, go to Settings > Mindfulness.
Your Apple Watch will no longer tap you on the wrist to nudge you to practice mindfulness. You can also disable the mindfulness notification for the rest of your day by turning on the Mute for today switch. If you change your mind later, simply follow the steps above and turn on the switches to restart mindfulness reminders.
