Have you ever wanted to have your favorite songs start playing automatically when you turn off your morning alarm? In this quick tutorial, we’ll show you how to do that on your iPhone or iPad using the built-in Shortcuts app.
Your morning alarm is meant to nudge you out of bed and start your day. However, if you want to begin your day on a cheerful and relaxed note, you can have your iPhone play your favorite song when you stop the alarm.
You can do this by using a simple automation in the Apple Shortcuts app that automatically triggers the Music app when you stop or snooze the alarm.
Before proceeding, I recommend you have a playlist with the songs you want to listen to and also a morning alarm or Wake Up Sleep Schedule.
Listen to your favorite songs when you stop the morning alarm
1) Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and tap Automation from the bottom.
2) Tap New Automation or the plus button (+) to create one.
3) Select Alarm from the list of conditions.
4) Depending on your choice, select Is Snoozed or Is Stopped. You can also choose Goes Off, but we are going with Is Stopped, so it’s confirmed you have woken up.
5) Next, choose the Wake-Up alarm if you have set up your Sleep Schedule. Otherwise, tap Existing, select your existing morning alarm, and hit Done. If you have not created an alarm to wake up, go to the Clock app to set an alarm and then select it here.
6) Now, tap Run Immediately so this automation runs without your confirmation in the morning, and tap Next.
7) Tap Play Music from the top or use the search bar to find and add it.
8) Now, tap the light blue “Music” placeholder text.
9) Tap Library > Playlists and select the playlist you want to start playing when the alarm is stopped. Once you are inside the playlist, tap the plus button (+) from the top to add it to your automation. You can also tap the plus button next to individual songs to add them.
10) Optional: Tap the tiny arrow to enable shuffle and repeat.
11) Finally, with everything set up, tap Done to save your automation.
From now on, when you stop your morning alarm, the selected playlist of your favorite song will automatically start playing. No other action is required. Just stop the alarm, and the automation is triggered automatically.
