Wondering about the battery on your AirTag? In this guide, we will tell you more about it and show you how to check the current charge of your AirTags directly from your iPhone.
About AirTag battery percentage in the Find My app
AirTag uses a removable CR2032 coin cell battery, which can last for months. Before iOS 15.6, you could go to the Find My app on your iPhone and select your AirTag in the Items section to see its battery percentage.

However, AirTags battery status is no longer shown in the Find My app. This is because the AirTag battery indicator was not accurate, and instead of improving the feature, Apple removed the ability to see the battery position altogether.
As a result, you can no longer know your AirTag’s battery level unless it’s low.
When your AirTag’s battery is low, Apple will send you notifications on your iPhone and iPad asking you to replace it. Secondly, when you select your AirTag inside the Find My app, the battery indicator will be red, and you will also see a message asking you to replace the battery.
Workaround to see the AirTag battery percentage
AirTag uses regular CR2032 batteries that are also used in other similar trackers, key fobs, toys, and more. So, if you have a device that uses CR2032 batteries and displays the battery status, you can remove your AirTag battery and put it in that device. You can then see the battery status there and put it back in your AirTag.
FAQs
Is the AirTag battery shown in the Batteries widget?
Your AirTag’s battery level or percentage is not displayed in the Batteries widget you add to your iPhone Home Screen, Today View, or the Lock Screen. The only indication that it’s high time to swap the battery is a low-battery notification that’ll appear on your iPhone when the AirTag battery charge is close to zero percent.
How can I turn on the AirTag battery percentage?
There is no way to turn on or see the AirTag battery percentage even when the battery is low. The exact AirTag battery percentage, like 10%, 2%, or 0%, is not shown next to the battery icon in the Find My app.
Does the Find My app show the battery of other similar devices?
While Apple removed AirTag’s battery icon from the Find My app, third-party developers may still allow you to see the remaining battery of their Find My Network trackers and items when you select it in the Items section of the Find My app on your iPhone.
