Check out the quick steps to turn off your WhatsApp “last seen” and “online” status from everyone or just specific contacts on your iPhone.
WhatsApp’s “last seen” feature lets people know when you were last active on the instant messaging app. Similarly, when you are using the app, WhatsApp displays an “online” tag under your name when people have opened the conversation screen with you.
Whether it’s for privacy or some other reason, you have the option to hide your WhatsApp “last seen” and “online” status if you don’t want others to know when you were last using the app or when you are online,.
Important: Once you hide your last seen and online status, you too cannot see this information for other people, even if they have enabled it to be visible.
Hide your WhatsApp “last seen” and “online” status
1) Open WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business and tap Settings.
2) Select Privacy.
3) Now, tap Last Seen & online and select an option:
- Everyone: All people — whether in your address book or an unknown person who has your phone number on their phone — can see your last seen time.
- My contacts: Only people in your phone’s address book can know when you were last using WhatsApp.
- My contacts except: You can use this to allow everyone in your contacts to see your last seen, except for some people. You can add people to this ‘excluded’ list by tapping My contacts except, selecting them, and tapping Done.
- Nobody: No one can know when you were last online on WhatsApp.
Note that people will see the word “online” below your name when you’re actually online. The above steps just hide your last online status and not if you’re currently online.
If you want to stop people from knowing when you are online on WhatsApp, select ‘Nobody‘ under the ‘Who can see my Last Seen‘ section and then select ‘Same as last seen‘ under ‘Who can see when I’m online.’
Remember that if you block a person on WhatsApp, they can’t see your last seen or online status.
