Learn how to make Siri remember your preferred music streaming service. When you give a voice command to play a song or artist, Siri will play it directly on that service without you needing to specify the app name.
You can ask Siri to play music by saying the app name. For instance, you can say, “Play Every Breath You Take by The Police on Spotify,” and Siri will do that. Note that if this is the first time, Siri will ask your permission to access your Spotify data. The mentioned command also works for other apps like Apple Music, YouTube Music, and more.
However, if you mostly stick to just one music app (even though you have a few media apps installed on your iPhone), it makes sense to train Siri to remember your preference. After this, you won’t have to say the app name for every voice command. So, instead of saying, “Play Every Breath You Take by The Police on Spotify,” you can just say, “Play Every Breath You Take by The Police,” and Siri will play it on Spotify (instead of Apple Music — which it generally the default service).
Train Siri to remember your preferred music app
- Invoke Siri on your iPhone or iPad and ask it to play a song or artist.
- Siri should now pop the question ‘Which app would you like to use‘ with a list of all the Music apps installed on your device.
- Select your preferred app by saying the app name or tapping it in the list.
Remember that Siri may ask your permission to access that app the first time so it can stream music without interruptions. Next time you request a song via Siri, it should use your selected app to play the song.

What if Siri still asks you to pick an app?
iOS has clear ways to set a default browser and email app. However, as of now, iOS has no such option to set a default music app. So you will have to repeat the above steps a few times, and then Siri will eventually learn your preferences. But again, there are no guarantees, and Siri may still ask for your choice from time to time.
