The 3 best Google Photos alternatives to store your photos and videos

Check out these excellent alternatives to Google Photos that offer plenty of space for storing your photos and videos in the cloud.

iCloud Photos on computer

Google no longer offers unlimited storage for Google Photos. So, if you want to keep using it beyond the free 15 GB quota, you will have to subscribe to Google One, whose plan starts at $1.99 per month for 100 GB storage.

However, if you are not happy with Google Photos, there are alternate options available. Just note that you will have to pick a paid plan for these alternatives, as none of them are truly free with unlimited storage.

iCloud Photos

iCloud Photos in web browser

iCloud is the best way for Apple users to store photos and videos. While it only provides 5 GB of free storage when you sign up, you can get up to 12 TB of online space by opting for a paid iCloud + storage plan or subscribing to Apple One (which also includes Apple Music, TV, Arcade, News, and Fitness).

iCloud will effortlessly store all your iPhone, iPad, and Mac photos in full resolution to the cloud, and you can even access them on other devices, including Windows PC and web browsers.

The photos stored on your iPhone will be high-resolution, which should help you save space on the device. The web version of Apple’s iCloud lacks search and edit options, but if you want to switch from Google Photos, then iCloud is something you should definitely consider.

Flickr Pro

Photographers, professionals, or someone who likes to store full-resolution photos on the cloud can also try out Flickr Pro. Unlike iCloud and Google Photos, which offer limited storage, Flickr Pro provides unlimited storage. You can upload unlimited full-resolution images to the service without any resolution cap. All this for a price that’s cheaper than Google Photos or iCloud.

Flickr Pro also includes galleries, commenting, discounts on software/tools, and groups, and may come with two months of free Adobe Create Cloud Photography plan. If you’re someone who takes a lot of photos, then you may want to try out Flickr Pro’s unlimited storage plan. Note that you can upload 1000 images for free.

Amazon Photos

Amazon Photos

Another excellent alternative to Google Photos is Amazon Photos, a service that’s available for Prime members. If you’re a Prime member, you get access to a bunch of services, including Amazon Photos. Once again, you get unlimited storage with this service, but it’s surely more expensive than the others. But remember that you do get same-day, 1-day, or 2-day free deliveries on eligible products, extra discounts, Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, and more, which makes up for the price.

Another thing to note here is that the service provides free unlimited photo storage, but video uploads are capped at 5 GB. You can upload full-resolution photos, which is nice. Non-prime members will get only 5 GB of total photos and video storage. Therefore, this is only really beneficial if you’re an existing Amazon Prime user.

Other options

It’s always a good idea to back up your photos and videos to the cloud. While Google Photos no longer offers free unlimited storage, there are plenty of alternatives that offer something better. Services such as Amazon Photos and Flickr Pro provide unlimited storage with additional benefits. At the end of the day, choose whichever suits your needs best.

If you’re still looking, here are some other cloud storage services you can use to save your memories to the cloud:

  • Degoo: Offers 20 GB of free space and then opt for a paid plan that goes up to 5000 GB!
  • Box: You get 10 GB storage with a free plan.
  • Dropbox: While the service is excellent, you have just 2 GB of free cloud storage.
  • pCloud: You get 10 GB of free storage. One highlight of pCloud is that it also lets you pick one of its lifetime plans.
