How to remotely disable Apple Pay on your lost iPhone

Learn how to disable Apple Pay remotely if you have misplaced your iPhone and do not want to leave even a slight chance of thief using your money.

Losing your Apple Watch or iPhone can be quite risky, as someone could gain access to important data, including Apple Pay. Of course, Apple has managed to make the Apple Pay service very secure and ensuring that it works only after you authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

However, if you want to be extra secure and negate the chances of a hacker gaining access to your cards, there are a couple of ways to remotely disable Apple Pay on a lost or stolen Apple device and remove all credit card information from it.

Turn on Lost Mode to disable Apple Pay remotely

Putting your misplaced iPhone in Lost Mode has a bunch of benefits, and one of them is that it disables Apple Pay and suspends added payment cards from working on that device.

To activate Lost Mode on your missing iPhone, you will need to use one of the following:

We will use another iPhone belonging to you to demonstrate the steps.

1) Launch the Find My app, tap Devices, and select the lost iPhone from the list.

2) Scroll down to the Mark As Lost section and tap Activate under it.

3) Tap Continue > enter another phone number > add a message to display on your stolen iPhone’s Lock Screen and hit Activate. You can learn more about these in our separate tutorial on using Lost Mode.

With Lost Mode activated, Apple Pay is now disabled for that device.

Remove Apple Pay cards and Wallet items on your lost iPhone using iCloud web

1) Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID and password that’s on the missing iPhone.

2) Click Devices from the left side.

Select Devices on your Apple ID page on iCloud Web

3) Select your lost iPhone from the list of your Apple devices.

4) Bring your attention to the Wallet & Apple Pay section and click the Remove Items button.

5) Click Remove Items to confirm.

The added payment methods like your credit cards and Apple Cash will no longer be available on this lost iPhone. If you find your lost/stolen iPhone or Apple Watch, you’ll need to re-add the removed cards.
