Learn how to use vanish mode on Instagram to send messages that automatically disappear as soon as they’re seen and you leave the chat.
Vanish mode on Instagram lets you send and receive disappearing messages that will be permanently deleted once you exit the chat. Unlike other ephemeral messaging services, such as Snapchat, you can enable or disable Instagram vanish mode manually when needed. You can also leave it permanently enabled for a specific chat.
If the person on the other side takes a screenshot, you will be notified of it. In addition to that, participants of the vanish mode chat cannot copy, save, or forward disappearing messages.
Note: Vanish mode is not available on Instagram web.
Use Instagram vanish mode on iPhone and Android phone
1) Open the Instagram app on your phone and go inside a chat where you want to send disappearing messages.
Remember that you cannot start vanish mode chats with accounts you haven’t connected with before. Plus, you cannot use vanish mode with some professional Instagram accounts.
2) Swipe up from the bottom of the chat screen, and you should see an option that says, ‘Swipe up to turn on vanish mode.’ Keep swiping and release to enter vanish mode. The screen will now turn black, and a bunch of ‘silence’ emojis will fall from the top of the screen.
3) Type your message and send it. The person will receive a notification for this message, and when they go in, vanish mode will be activated for them as well.
4) Keep chatting as you normally do.
5) When one of you leaves the vanish mode chat screen or goes out of the Instagram app, all the seen messages will disappear automatically from their device. The messages also go away if vanish mode is turned off by swiping up from the bottom of the chat screen.
Note that once you’ve activated vanish mode, you can leave it enabled at all times. You can also tap the person’s name from the top of the chat screen, hit Privacy & safety, and activate vanish mode.
All in all, vanish mode is an easy way to chat super privately with someone. The chat and all aspects of the chat, including images, will be deleted after exiting the chat. You can also take screenshots in this mode, but as mentioned, your recipient will be notified of your action and vice versa.
