In this step-by-step tutorial, we’ll show you how to add music to your Instagram story to enhance your content with your favorite tunes.
Instagram has long allowed you to add music to your stories. And if you jumped onto that cool feature, then this isn’t anything new to you. But if you’re just starting, you can take advantage of it to make more memorable stories.
Add music to your Instagram story
Snap your photos, capture video, use effects, and whatever else you want for your story. Then, do the following to add music.
1) Tap the music icon from the top. You can also tap the sticker icon and select the Music option.
2) Browse for a song you want to use. You can use the For You and Browse tabs at the top or enter the song’s name in the Search box. Preview a song by pressing the play button to the right of it. Once you like the song, tap it to add it to your story.
3) After you choose a song, it will pop into your story, but you can make some adjustments to it first.
- Slide the scrub bar at the bottom to select the part of the song you want to use.
- Swipe down on the album art to see the lyrics. This can help you select the precise portion of the song.
- Tap the clip duration icon to pick how long you want the clip. Your options are to pick between 5 to 15 seconds. Note that you may not be able to set the duration if the story has a video.
- Select a style for the font of the lyrics or album art. The left-most option is Music Only, which is a great one.
- Tap the row of icons to change the song or font color.
5) With adjustments made to your liking, tap Done from the upper right corner.
6) You can now drag the album art or lyrics to the desired spot on your story. Finally, share or send your story as normal.
Add music to a photo or video beforehand
You can use an app like iMovie to add music to your photo or video. You can also use the Memories feature in the Photos app to create a beautiful video slideshow.
Once you have the media file, you can share it to your Instagram story normally.
Add songs and lyrics to your Instagram story
You can easily share Apple Music songs to your Instagram Story. If you want to take things even further, you also have the option to share the lyrics of an Apple Music track with the song link to your story.
If you prefer Spotify, tap the share button on the Now Playing screen and select Instagram Stories.
