In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to quickly add loop, bounce, and long exposure effects to your Live Photos on iPhone, iPad, or Mac to make these moving images even more fun!
Live Photos are nifty little moving clips in the form of photos. When you see one, just press and hold to watch it move and hear its sound. And since Live Photos are like tiny videos, you can do some cool things with them, like add effects.
Add effects to Live Photos on iPhone and iPad
1) Open a Live Photo in the Apple Photos app. You can see them all in the Live Photos section under the Media Types heading.
2) Tap the word “LIVE” from the top left and pick a style:
- Select Loop to create a video loop where it replays again and again.
- Pick Bounce to make it rock back and forth, forward and in reverse.
- You can also try out Long Exposure, which creates a timing and movement effect.
If you want to convert the Live Photo into a still image, choose the Live Off option. Now, the key frame of this Live Photo will appear as a still image.
Extra info: If you happen to have an iPhone running a very old version of iOS, simply open the Live Photo and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. You’ll see the Live Photo Effects area directly beneath the photo. Choose Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure. Whichever effect you select will display on the top left, and it will be saved automatically.
Undo the effect
If you want to revert it to its original state, follow the above steps and select Live in place of Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure.
Add a loop, bounce, or long exposure effect to Live Photos on Mac
1) Open the Apple Photos app on your computer and select the Live Photo that you want to use from the Live Photos category in the left sidebar.
2) Click Edit on the top right.
3) Click the Live drop-down box and select Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure.
4) When you finish, click Done on the top right. Your Live Photo will be saved with your changes.
Undo the effect
If you want to revert it to its original state, you can do this easily by selecting Live in the drop-down box.
