Learn how to use your iPhone or iPad to change the press speed and press & hold duration for your AirPods stem and AirPods Max Digital Crown.
You can press the AirPods stem two or three times to do things like hang up a call, mute and unmute yourself on a phone call, skip to the next song, go to the previous song, and more. Additionally, you can also press and hold the stem to invoke Siri or cycle between Noise Control settings.
The default speed and duration to do these actions on AirPods are suitable for most people. However, if you have difficulty performing these actions, Apple lets you change how quickly you must press the stem or press & hold it on your AirPods 3rd generation and AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation). If you have an AirPods Max, you can adjust these settings for the Digital Crown.
Note: These settings are not available for AirPods 1st and 2nd generations with Double-Tap controls.
Change press speed and press & hold duration for AirPods
1) Connect your AirPods to your iPhone or iPad and then open the Settings app.
2) Tap your AirPods from the top. You can also tap Bluetooth and hit the info button ⓘ next to your AirPods name.
3) Scroll down and tap Accessibility.
4) Now set your desired AirPods press speed and the press and hold duration.
- Press Speed: Adjust how quickly you must double or triple-press the AirPods stem or Digital Crown before an action occurs. You can choose from Default. Slower, or Slowest.
- Press and Hold Duration: Change the duration required to press and hold the AirPods stem or Digital Crown. Your options are Default, Shorter, and Shortest.
On the AirPods 3rd generation and AirPods Pro, this affects the speed of double or triple-pressing a stem to skip forward or backward, plus how long a stem must be held down for Siri to spring into action.
On the AirPods Max, press speed affects how quickly you must press the Digital Crown two or three times to skip forward or backward respectively. Conversely, press and hold duration determines the duration required to press and hold the Digital Crown to invoke Siri.
