Learn how to view carrier information on your iPhone to confirm whether the device you’re buying or selling is locked or unlocked.

You can prove to a potential buyer that your iPhone is unlocked by pulling out your SIM card and inserting theirs. An even easier approach is to view carrier lock information in the Settings app to quickly verify if the device is locked to a specific carrier or unlocked for use on any compatible wireless network.

Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to the General > About section. If you see “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock, the device is unlocked and not tied to a particular carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon.
Conversely, a different Carrier Lock message could imply that your phone is, in fact, locked, meaning it cannot be used on other carriers’ networks. An unlocked iPhone can be used on all major US carriers. iOS 14 or later is required for this feature.
