Check out this neat trick for taking screenshots on your iPad using the Apple Pencil without having to press any button.

You can screenshot anything displayed on your iPad screen by pressing the top button (or the Home button) and one of the volume buttons at the same time. However, in my experience, this is not very intuitive as I often find it uncomfortable to press the tiny buttons on the iPad’s top side. Reaching those buttons is especially impractical when taking a bunch of screenshots, even more so if you happen to own a larger iPad model.
Thankfully, if you use Apple Pencil, you can quickly take screenshots without having to press even a single button. This is especially helpful when you are already working with your Apple Pencil and do not want to break your workflow by putting it down.
Take iPad screenshots with Apple Pencil
- Make sure you are on the screen where you want to take a screenshot.
- Swipe up diagonally from the bottom left corner of the iPad display to grab a screenshot.
- Hit Done and choose Save to Photos.
Remember that you can also use your Apple Pencil or your finger to edit your screenshot before saving it. Your options here are:
- Crop the screenshot by dragging the corners of the screenshot.
- Adjust the transparency of the screenshot using the slider next to the Done button in the top left corner.
- Use Live Text to identify text and copy it or take other appropriate action, such as creating a calendar event, adding to reminder, calling a phone number, and more.
- Use the Markup tools.
- Delete the screenshot if you no longer need it.
- Share the screenshot using AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or other apps.
When taking screenshots using Apple Pencil makes a lot of sense!
Imagine you’re watching a video and want to capture a particular frame. In this case, drag the Apple Pencil from the bottom left corner of the screen and hold. You will notice that the video continues to play in a small frame. When the desired frame appears, just lift your Apple Pencil to capture the screenshot.
What if you swipe diagonally from the bottom right
By default, when you swipe diagonally from the bottom right, it opens a small Quick Note window.
Change this setting
If you’d rather take screenshots by swiping from the bottom right corner of your iPad screen, then go to Settings > Multitasking & Gestures, and set Bottom Right Corner to Screenshot. You can even set both the bottom left and right corners to take a screenshot!
However, if this gesture bothers you when sketching or using your iPad, you can turn off the Swipe Finger from Corner option to disable it.
