How to turn off Optimized Battery Charging on iPhone

Learn more about Optimized Battery Charging, an iPhone feature that uses machine learning to analyze your daily charging routine and delays charging to reduce the wear on your battery caused by overcharging.

Optimize Battery Charging Enabled iPhone

How long your iPhone battery lasts over time is related to its chemical age. And as Apple explains, that includes more than just when it was installed on your device.

Things that can affect your battery’s lifespan include its temperature history and charging patterns.

Just like any other rechargeable battery, as your iPhone ages, its ability to hold a charge decreases. This results in a reduction in performance and overall battery life.

What Optimized Battery Charging does

The Optimized Battery Charging feature on iPhone, Mac, AirPods, and Apple Watch can help improve the lifespan of your device battery by reducing the amount of time your iPhone spends with a full charge.

Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to understand your daily charging routine so that it can wait until you need to use your iPhone to finish charging past 80 percent.

This is meant to increase the lifespan of your battery by reducing the wear on it.

Disable Optimized Battery Charging

This feature is enabled by default, and quite frankly, you should not turn it off. With that said, it’s easy to disable the feature if your iPhone keeps getting stuck at 80% and refuses to charge beyond it.

1) Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Battery.

2) Tap Charging from the bottom.

3) If the Charge Limit is 100%, then only the Optimized Battery Charging toggle will be active. Turn off Optimized Battery Charging and then disable it until tomorrow or tap Turn Off to disable it permanently.

In case you’ve set your iPhone to limit its charge to 80, 85, 90, or 95 percent, then you can’t turn off the Optimized Battery Charging feature.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with a feature that helps increase the lifespan and resulting charging ability and performance of your iPhone battery, right? So, will you opt to keep the Optimize Battery Charging feature enabled? If not, let us know why not in the comments below!
