Learn how to set up Voice ID in the Alexa app or directly on the Amazon smart speaker so the voice assistant can recognize your voice and offer personalized experiences and suggestions.
While you might use Alexa and your Amazon Echo speaker to do things like shopping, listening to music, or checking your calendar, you probably don’t think about the effect of your voice. Your speaker is smart enough to recognize your voice in order to personalize your experience.
For instance, setting up a Voice ID (earlier called Alexa Voice Profile or Learn My Voice) can help you announce messages only sent to you, customize music playback, tell you about your calendar events, skip news stories you’ve already heard, and more.
Use Alexa on the speaker
Make sure your Amazon Echo Speaker is powered on. Now, say, “Alexa, Learn my voice,” and follow along.
Use the Alexa app
You can use the Alexa app on your phone to set up Voice ID and train the voice assistant to recognize your voice or that of a family member.
1) Open the Alexa app on your iPhone and tap More.
2) Tap Settings and select Your Profile & Family from the top.
3) Tap Voice ID or hit the Set Up Voice ID banner if you see it.
4) Agree & Continue on the Set up Voice ID screen if you’re ok with it.
5) Speak what you see on the screen to finish setting up Voice ID.
Add Voice Profiles for family members
If you have others in your home who would like to use Alexa and the Amazon Echo speaker, they can set up their own Voice Profiles, too.
1) Open the Alexa app on your phone and go to More > Settings > Your Profile & Family.
2) Tap the plus button from the top or tap Add Someone Else.
3) Enter the name of your family member and tap the Add button.
4) Now, tap Continue on the Hand your phone to screen.
5) Agree to the terms and conditions if you and that user do.
6) Now, ask that family member to finish setting up Voice ID using their voice.
Delete Voice Profiles
If you ever want to remove your Voice Profile or erase it and start over, it’s simple. Follow the above steps to return to the Your Profile & Family screen. Now, tap Voice ID and choose Delete Voice ID.
Delete Amazon profiles
You cannot delete profiles from the Alexa app. However, you can remove it by visiting the Manage Your Profiles page on Amazon’s website.
