How to add a bookmark to Chrome directly from Safari on iOS

Find out how to add a bookmark to Google Chrome right from Safari on your iPhone or iPad if you use both browsers and want to save links efficiently.

Safari is my main browser on iPhone, but I prefer Google Chrome on my Mac. When I come across a great article on my iPhone and want to read it comfortably on my Mac, I simply use Handoff or AirDrop to open the link there.

However, if I want to save an interesting article to pick up later on my Mac, I use the tip below to add a Safari link as a bookmark in Chrome. That bookmark then syncs automatically from my iPhone to my Mac, as Chrome on both devices is signed in to the same Google account.

If you also have your reasons to save a web page open in Safari as a bookmark in Chrome, doing this is easier than you think.

Step 1: Enable Chrome as a sharing option in Safari Share Sheet

Assuming you already have Chrome installed on your iPhone or iPad, you have to make sure it’s enabled in the Safari sharing options. You have to follow this step only once.

1. Open Safari on your iOS device and visit any website. Then, tap the three dots menu icon and select the Share option. If you have reverted to the old Safari design, tap the share button that’s always visible near the address bar.
2. Scroll to the right to see the apps in your sharing options. If you don’t see Chrome, tap the More button on the far right.
3. Now, tap the Edit button, ensure the switch for Chrome is green, and then tap the plus button before its name. Finally, tap the checkmark twice to save the changes.

Step 2: Add a bookmark to Google Chrome from Safari

Now that you have Chrome as a sharing option in Safari Share Sheet, the rest is simple. Follow these steps when you arrive at a site you want to share with Chrome.

1. Tap the share icon in the Safari window on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Select Chrome from the iOS Share Sheet.
3. Tap More Options and select Add to Bookmarks in the pop-up. You’ll see a very brief confirmation that the site was added.

The bookmarks you add to Chrome will go into its Mobile Bookmarks folder by default, so they’ll be easy to find later.

And, if you sync your Chrome bookmarks with all your devices, then you can access that folder and those bookmarks from your other locations. If the mobile bookmarks don’t sync, tap your profile picture in Chrome, followed by “Save in account.”

It’s common for a lot of people to use more than one browser, and this little trick is handy if you use both Safari and Chrome.

And if you’re on a web page in Safari on Mac and want to open it in Chrome or another browser, there’s a handy trick to do that without copying and pasting the link. And if you have your passwords saved with Apple, you can easily transfer them to Chrome or Firefox.
