How to give a unique name to your Apple Watch

Learn how to change the display name of your Apple Watch to easily identify the device in the Find My app, on iCloud, watchOS menus, etc.

I usually name all my Apple gadgets with their actual product names. For example, I’ve renamed my phone “iPhone 16 Pro” and my computer has the display name “MacBook Air.” You can give your Apple Watch a custom name in the companion Watch app on your iPhone, and we show you how.

Reasons to rename your Apple Watch

The Apple Watch display name helps you identify the right device when you’ve paired multiple watches with your iPhone. To can all your paired watches hit “All Watches” in the top-left corner of the Watch app on your iPhone.

Your Apple Watch name also appears underneath the Devices tab in the Find My app and on iCloud.com, helping you ping or find the right watch if it goes missing. Additionally, you’ll see your Apple Watch name in the list of devices associated with your Apple account in the iCloud settings.

Another reason to give distinct display name to each Apple Watch you own is easer identification of the right Apple Watch when restoring from a backup or deleting Apple Watch backups you no longer need.

Change the name of your Apple Watch

  1. Launch the companion Watch app on your paired iPhone.
  2. Select the My Watch tab at the bottom.
  3. Navigate to General > About.
  4. Touch the Name field.
  5. Type a new name for your device, then hit done on the keyboard.
