Learn how to clear cached media and other temporary files in the X app on your iPhone or Android phone to free up storage space or troubleshoot issues.

Photos, videos, and other content on X (Twitter) is cached when you browse timelines. This saves bandwidth and speed every time a piece of content is re-used. But caches build up over time, potentially leading to an infamous “Storage Full” message.
The good news is, X lets you clear its cache and temporary media files to instantly free up local device storage. Deleting the X cache may also fix images or photos not loading in the timeline and similar issues.
iPhone or iPad
Clearing iOS caches doesn’t make much sense as iOS manages storage dynamically, automatically clearing temporary files and caches when you’re low on storage. Some third-party apps like X provide their own storage management features so you can not only see how much storage an app cache is taking up but also clear it to reclaim that space.
Start be opening the X app, then hit your profile picture at the top and select Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display, and languages > Data usage.
You’ll see the Media storage and Web storage entries under the Storage heading. Choose Media storage to see how much storage space photos, videos, and animated GIFs in your X timeline are taking up, then select Media storage > Clear media storage to clear X’s media storage.
Select Web storage to view the amount of storage consumed by the web content X has loaded, like webpages, cookies, saved logins, and other web data. To clear this cached content, hit the respective Clear web page storage or Clear all web storage button.
Android phone
The process for deleting app caches is standard for all Android apps. First, hold the X app icon on the Home Screen or App Drawer and hit the app info ⓘ option. And second, hit Storage & Cache and then Clear Storage or Clear Cache. You may need to login back in after making these changes. You can use the storage you just freed up to store more photos, videos, apps and more on your Android phone.
As is often the case with these things, your mileage may vary. The amount of freed storage depends on your X usage and app settings such as prefetching and thumbnail size.
