Learn how to download all songs in your Apple Music library for offline listening on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android phone, and Windows PC.
Mac and PC
Follow these steps to save your entire music library for offline playback on your computer.
1) Open the Apple Music app on your Mac or Windows PC and go to the Songs section under the Library heading to see all your tracks.
2) Click one of the tracks and press Command + A (macOS) or Control + A (Windows) to select all songs at once.
3) Right-click the section and choose Download from the menu.
The Music app will start downloading the songs. To check and pause download progress, click the info button ⓘ in the bottom-left corner of the window.
To cancel all song downloads at once, press Command + A to select everything in the Activity window and hit the Delete key on the keyboard.
iPhone and iPad
The built-in Music app lacks a Download All button, but you can download individual songs, albums, and playlists instead. Of course, downloading them one by one is impractical with more than a few dozen albums in your library. Our magic solution is a giant smart playlist. There are two ways to do this — automation in the Shortcuts app or the Smart Playlist feature in the Music app — and both are explained below.
The Shortcuts app
1) Open the Music app on your iPhone or iPad, create a playlist, and name it.
2) Switch to the Shortcuts app, select the Shortcuts tab, and hit the plus button to create a new automation.
3) Use the search bar to find and add the “Find Music” action to your build.
4) Tap + Add Filter and make sure it says “Artist is anything.” This condition will cover all songs in the library because every song has ‘some‘ artist.
5) Use the search bar again to find and add the “Add to Playlist” action.
6) Tap “My Music Library” and select the playlist you created in step 1.
7) Tap Done to save your automation and exit the editing screen, then tap your automation in the All Shortcuts section to run it. It will fetch all songs in the library (because of the “Artist is anything” rule) and add them to your playlist.
8) Go to said playlist in the Music app and tap the download icon to save all songs for offline playback.
Smart Playlist
Create a smart playlist containing all your songs. This isn’t such a lengthy process as it sounds, and the only catch is that you need a Mac or Windows PC to create a smart playlist in the first place. The playlist will update as you add or remove songs from your library and sync to your iPhone and iPad via iCloud.
1) Open the Music app on your Mac, right-click the Playlists section in the sidebar, and choose New Smart Playlist. On Windows, click the plus button (+) next to Playlists and select New Smart Playlist.
2) Check the option labeled Match for the following rule.
3) Click the first menu and choose Time.
4) Click the second menu and pick ‘is greater than.’
5) Set the Time value to 00:01 to include all tunes longer than one second, which should cover all songs in your library.
6) You can tweak these options:
- To only include a specific number of songs in the playlist, tick the Limit to and enter a value.
- To ensure new Apple Music songs added to your library are automatically added to the playlist, tick the Live updating box.
7) Click OK to finish creating your smart playlist.
8) Give the playlist a suitable name, like All My Songs.
9) Open the Music app on your iPhone or iPad. Be sure the device is connected to the internet and using the same Apple Music subscription account as your computer.
10) Navigate to Library > Playlists, and select your smart playlist from there.
11) Hit the download arrow button on the playlist screen to download and save all playlist songs locally to your iPhone for offline listening.
If there are hundreds of songs in the playlist, plug the device into power to avoid draining the battery unnecessarily. Your iPhone and iPad may become a little warmer with all those concurrent downloads going on. You’ll also want to connect the device to Wi-Fi so you don’t blow past your mobile data allowance. With all songs downloaded, you can access your entire music library while offline.
Android
Create a playlist of all your Apple Music songs using any method above and give it a minute or two to sync to your Android phone. Open the playlist in the Apple Music app for Android and hit the downward-pointed arrow to download everything in one fell swoop.
